Lockdown At Whitko Resolved QuicklySOUTH WHITLEY – Comments made by a student led to Whitko Jr.-Sr. High School being locked down for a short time Monday, but the issue was quickly resolved.
According to an emergency notification from Whitko Community Schools at 12:42 p.m. Monday, due to threatening remarks directed toward the school, it was locked down for the safety of all students and staff. The issue was investigated and determined to be a rumor, according to school staff. Everyone was determined to be safe and accounted for, the notification stated.
A news release later in the afternoon stated, “After a complete investigation of (today's) situation, it was deemed that there was no threat to our students or staff. However, Whitko Community Schools takes very seriously any issues dealing with safety. We will continue to be proactive in every situation to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
In a previous statement, interim Superintendent Nick Eccles said, “We are glad that our school was being proactive with comments made by a student. And I’m very happy that the issue was resolved and we will continue to make safety a top priority at Whitko.”
An emergency message was released via a direct phone call and email, according to a news release issued Monday afternoon by the school corporation. It was also posted to social media on Facebook and Twitter, and the school website also has an updated alert at this time when a person visits whitko.org.
