A pair of basketball players with ties to Kosciusko County were scheduled for a pre-NBA Draft workout with the Utah Jazz today.
Nic Moore and Marshall Plumlee, both of whom grew up in Warsaw and played hoops here through at least middle school, were scheduled to work out for Utah in preparation for Thursday’s draft.
Moore, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound point guard, played his first college season at Illinois State University before transferring to SMU, where he was the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
As a senior this past season, Moore led the Mustangs to a 25-5 record, which included a 16-1 record at home, while averaging a conference-best 16.1 points and 5.2 assists per game.
Moore played in 135 college games and has career stats of 1,811 points, 643 assists, 312 rebounds and 169 steals.
While playing for Warsaw Community High School and coach Doug Ogle, Moore led the Tigers to a pair of sectional championships and a Class 4A state runner-up in 2010.
Moore is second on WCHS’ all-time scoring list with 1,891 points. He finished second in Mr. Basketball voting and was an Indiana All-Star in 2011.
Moore recently had a workout with the Dallas Mavericks.
Plumlee grew up in Warsaw, playing at Jefferson Elementary and Lakeview Middle School, before moving to North Carolina.
The 7-foot, 250-pound Plumlee won four state championships with Christ School and was the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year in 2011, as well as playing in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
At Duke University, Plumlee was a member of the 2015 national championship team.
As a senior for the Blue Devils this past season, Plumlee averaged 8.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. He shot 69 percent from the field.
Plumlee’s career stats at Duke include 427 points, 300 of which he scored as a senior, 476 rebounds and 100 blocked shots.
Plumlee has already had workouts with the Clippers, Grizzlies, Knicks, Lakers and Wizards.
He is scheduled for workouts next week with the Spurs and defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.
Plumlee’s brothers, Miles and Mason, were both first-round picks in the NBA Draft.
Also slated to work out for the Utah Jazz today were Wichita State guard Fred VanVleet, Oregon wing Elgin Cook, High Point wing John Brown and Iowa State wing Jameel McKay.
The Utah Jazz have the 12th pick in this year’s draft.
