Local Veteran Announces Third-Party Candidacy For 3rd DistrictFORT WAYNE – Tyler Bender, a Fort Wayne-born and Noble County-raised veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, has announced the establishment of a new political party, The Working Party, and his candidacy for United States Congress in Indiana’s 3rd district.
“After nearly 20 years of preparation, now is the time to combine all I have learned and experienced in order to faithfully and diligently represent the interests of the people living in Indiana’s 3rd District,” Bender said.
“The major parties seem to have forgotten their responsibility to the citizens of this country. It’s been far too long since we’ve truly had government of, by and for the people. That needs to change, and it needs to change now,” he said.
The Working Party brings together voters from the left, right and in between who are tired of endless partisan gridlock standing in the way of the country’s progress and eroding the quality of life for ordinary working Americans, Bender said.
The focus of this new party, he said, is creating new industries, with good-paying jobs, in communities that have been left behind by globalization, and improving the educational system in a way that ensures all citizens are getting the training they need, he said.
Bender believes that, if successful in November’s election, he could provide a framework for a new, constructive and cooperative approach to American politics.
“If my message proves to appeal to a majority of voters in northeast Indiana, it can appeal to a majority of voters in congressional districts across the country,” states Bender.
“The word that comes to mind when I think of Tyler is dedication,” said Dr. Pat Ashton, formerly a sociology professor at IPFW. “It took him 10 years to finish his undergraduate degree, but he persevered – not just surviving, but performing as an excellent student, all while balancing his roles as a student, full-time employee and full-time single parent.”
