A local tennis team from Warsaw Tennis and Fitness is heading to Palm Springs, Calif. in October to compete for a United States Tennis Association national title. According to team captain Leon Brenneman, "Every year thousands of teams from every part of the country compete at a local level. Our local league was in Fort Wayne where we were undefeated in 10 summer matches. “That advanced us to the Northern Indiana playoff where we defeated the South Bend champion. From there, we competed for the state title, beating a very tough Indianapolis team. Representing Indiana, we then won the five-state district playoff against the state champions from Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. We will now represent the Midwest in the National Championship in California the first week of October." Brenneman remains cautiously optimistic about the team's chances at Nationals. "It is amazing to see the variety of players that make up these teams. We compete against top Juniors, current and former college players, club professionals and top senior level players,” he said. “We have a very good team, but when you compete against teams that represent multiple states you get into very skilled competition. It is quite an honor to compete at that level."
