INDIANAPOLIS -ÊSeveral area swimmers competed in the state swim preliminaries Friday in the IUPUI Natatorium. Area boys advanced to today's finals in six events.
Warsaw's Justin Lowrance, Wawasee's Guy Simmons and Adam Brown and Manchester's Rod Smith each advanced to consolation rounds in Saturday's state finals, while Warsaw's 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams advanced as well.
Lowrance was the highest area finisher with a 9th-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.62
Smith and Simmons placed 13th and 14th respectively in the 100 backstroke. Smith swam a 53.90, while Simmons swam a 54.79 to advance.
After swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.52, Brown placed 12th in the preliminaries and advanced to Saturday's consolation round.
Brown's time in the 100 breaststroke set a school record.
Warsaw's 400 freestyle relay placed fourth with a time of 3:18.49, and the Tiger 200 medley relay team placed 15th with a time of 1:40.29.
Adam Helfrich of Warsaw competed in the 100 butterfly, but his time of 54.50 was not fast enough to advance to Saturday's competition.
Brown also competed in the 200 individual medley but did not advance to the finals. He finished with a time of 2:04.61.
Wawasee's 200 medley swam a 1:43.44 but missed the cutoff for the consolation round as well.
Swimming and diving continue at 9 this morning. Two locals, Manchester's Reed Christiansen and Wawasee's Dusten Lytle, compete in diving.
