INDIANAPOLIS — The Warsaw and Wawasee girls swim teams will be represented in today’s state finals at IUPUI.
At Friday night’s prelims, the top 16 finishers moved on to today’s finals, with 1-8 competing in the championship heat and 9-16 in the consolation.
From Wawasee, junior Breanna Robinson finished third in the 100 fly (54.02) and second in the 100 back (54.37).
In the 100 back, Robinson’s second-place finish was to defending champion Claire Adams, a sophomore out of Carmel.
During the prelims, Adams broke the state record time of 53.40, which she set last year, with a time of 53.38.
Adams also set a new meet record in the 200 free with a time 1:46.96, an event Wawasee freshman Paige Miller will compete in, finishing 15th in 2:07.21.
Miller also finished 15th in the 500, qualifying for today’s consolation heat in 5:03.09.
Miller and Robinson also helped Wawasee’s 400 free relay, which also consists of junior Kendra Miller and sophomore Kayla Hershberger, qualify for today’s finals by finishing 14th in 3:35.05.
Because Robinson was swimming the 100 back, she vacated her spot in the 200 free relay to freshman Shelby Adams, and the team of herself, sophomore Mikala Mawhorter and Paige Miller finished 23rd in 1:41.15.
From Warsaw, freshman Brenna Morgan finished 15th in the 50 free (24.15) and 16th in the 100 free (52.60), moving on to today’s consolation heats.
Morgan was also a part of the 30th-place 200 free relay with Erin Sandberg, Ashley Van Wormer and Cynthia Juarez and the 32nd-place 200 medley relay with Megan Bixler, Van Wormer and Sandberg.
Juarez also finished 28th in the 500 free (5:29.22) and Van Wormer was 24th in the 100 breast (1:07.52).
Today’s finals begin at 1 p.m. at IUPUI.
