MENTONE – Cargill has awarded college scholarships to two local students.

Rheann Weaver, Warsaw, and Mallarie Stookey, Milford, 2012 graduates of Warsaw Community High School, will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for next school year.

In addition, as part of the Cargill Community Scholarship Program, the high school will receive $400 from Cargill to support the school library, made in honor of the two students.

“We are pleased to recognize Rheann and Mallarie with this award and Warsaw High School for its dedicated work as well,” said Clayt Engholm, manager of Cargill Animal Nutrition in Mentone. “Cargill supports education programs in our communities because today’s young people are tomorrow’s leaders.”

This year, 350 students living in communities where Cargill operates receive an award through the Cargill Community Scholarship Program. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in school and community activities. Each year, approximately  2,000 students applied for this program. The National FFA administers this program on behalf of Cargill, though recipients do not need to be FFA members.

Along with the Cargill Community Scholarship Program, the company also provided 50 scholarships for children of U.S. employees. All the programs contribute to Cargill’s approach to corporate responsibility, which is a company-wide  commitment to apply its global knowledge and experience to help meet complex economic, environmental and social challenges wherever it does business.
