Local Students Receive Statewide Recognition For ArtworkEach year, Kosciusko REMC (KREMC) encourages area students to enter the Cooperative Calendar of Student Art contest – a statewide competition that they help sponsor.

The contest gives young artists a chance to see their work published in a calendar that is distributed to thousands of homes and businesses across Indiana, according to a news release from KREMC.

Andrew Zink, a sophomore at Lakeland Christian Academy, won first place for his grade level. Zink is not new to this competition – he has won before. Zink’s artwork will be featured in the 2022 calendar, and he received a $200 reward from Indiana Electric Cooperatives (IEC) for winning.

Julie Bloomfield, a local homeschooled student, was also acknowledged in the contest – she took home the fourth-grade honorable mention. Bloomfield was excited to be recognized, because though she had won other contests before, she had not won anything for her artwork. She received $75 prize from IEC.

KREMC’s president and CEO, Kurt Carver, met with both students and presented them with a special gift from KREMC.

“We love getting the opportunity to recognize young artists,” said Carver. “We are thankful for the teachers and parents who encourage their students to get involved each year. Our community has some wonderfully talented kids, and we look forward to seeing what they create in the future.”

Kosciusko REMC is a Touchstone Energy® electric cooperative serving over 18,500 accounts throughout Kosciusko County and surrounding counties.
