Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Seven Wawasee High School students and their adviser will return to Syracuse today after a harrowing weekend in Oklahoma.
The FFA soil judging team was in Oklahoma City for the national competition. The tornadoes that tore through the state Monday demolished the hotel the students were staying in and the van they were using.
Fortunately, said Don Huber, Wawasee schools' director of finance, the students made it out of their second-floor hotel rooms before the tornado hit.
"They're fine," he said.
Competing in Oklahoma were students Kirk Kaiser, Shad Krull, Katie Schlipf, Christy Schlipf, Matt Brower, Matt Roberts and Derek Patterson. Their faculty adviser is Randy Warren.
Huber said plane flights were arranged for the group and they will return this afternoon.
