Local Special Olympians Compete In EKS?GamesINDIANAPOLIS – Special Olympic athletes from Kosciusko County competed in the EKS Games held in Indianapolis on Sunday on the campus of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.  About 1,200 athletes participated.

The EKS Games, which began with festive opening ceremonies, are named for the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, national founder of Special Olympics.    

Local athletes competed in corn toss and flag football.

Flag Football Results

The Kosciusko County Panthers placed first in their division winning gold medals.  The other teams in their division included: Morgan County Stallions, Shelby County Bears & Washington Township Panthers.

Corn Toss Results

There were 24 athletes from Kosciusko County that competed in corn toss competition.

Unified teams

30-Foot Competition

Norman McPeak & Mike Parker, second place; Ruby French & Donnie Lopez, fourth place; Steven Slater & Scott Frush, second place; Wayne Momeyer & Ryan Wheeler, third place.

21-Foot Competition

Sandy Bibler & Lori Kiefer, fourth place; Elizabeth Wabol & Kathy Kumfer; third place; Amy Morris & Cheryl Lewis, first place; Teri Hughes & Sabrina Turner, first place; James Mornout & Marti Sullivan, third place; Jim Kussmaul & Robert Svinarich, third place

“I thank the coaches and volunteers for their time and effort in making this a memorable event,” said Becky Walls, Special Olympics Kosciusko County Coordinator.

Current sports include bowling with basketball and basketball skills slated to begin in November.
