MARION — The Warsaw girls basketball team opened the 2012 calendar year with a 61-42 win at Marion Tuesday, improving to 10-2 on the season.
Warsaw junior Lindsay Baker, who recently verbally committed to the University of Toledo, led the Lady Tigers with 21 points and four assists.
Also for Warsaw, senior Sarah Heagy posted 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior Sarah Ray also had seven rebounds and two steals.
The Lady Tigers return to Northern Lakes Conference action Saturday at home against the Northridge Lady Raiders. Both teams enter the game with 2-0 NLC records.

Tuesday in Albion Getting four girls into double-digit scoring, the Manchester girls basketball team got a 54-33 win at Central Noble Tuesday night. Junior Kayla Flack led the Lady Squires’ scoring attack with 15 points, while senior Malyssa Bedke, senior Meika Kennedy and junior Bekah Brunn each scored 11. Kennedy also had seven steals and eight rebounds in the win. The 8-3 Lady Squires host Eastbrook Thursday. GIRLS SWIMMING Tuesday in Syracuse In a showdown between two of the top Northern Lakes Conference girls swim teams Tuesday in Syracuse, the 15th-ranked Wawasee Lady Warriors fell 95-91 against Northridge. In defeat, Wawasee won six events, with the Robinson sisters being a part of each one. Individually, freshman Breanna Robinson set school and pool records in the 200 free (1:53.14) and 500 free (5:02.50), while senior Brittany Robinson set a pool record in the 100 fly (56.51). The sisters also helped set a school and pool record in the 200 free relay with junior Sarah Rozow and senior Sarah Steele, winning in 1:40.94.
