SYRACUSE — The Wawasee wrestling swept through its own tournament Saturday afternoon.

Hosting its Wawasee December Duals, the Warriors went 5-0, defeating Plymouth (49-24), Rochester (54-18), John Glenn (35-30), Manchester (60-20) and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (54-26).

Going undefeated at 152 pounds, Wawasee’s Ryan Lindsey was named the meet’s most outstanding wrestler.

Also going undefeated for Wawasee were Greg Newman (106), Kyle Clevenger (138), Andrew Hepler (160), Brian Clark (182) and Dimitri Kaplanis (HWT).

Manchester finished the day at 2-3, defeating Luers (45-18) and Rochester (34-27), with Payton Sorg and Aaron Snep going undefeated at 152 and 220, respectively.

Wawasee is off until the Warriors host NorthWood on Jan. 5, while Manchester will be at Friday’s Rochester Invitational.

At Saturday’s Penn Invitational, the Warsaw Tigers went 2-3, defeating NorthWood (46-28) and Edwardsburg (60-18), while falling to Penn’s first team (67-6) and second team (46-29), as well as Lakeshore (36-33). In his return to the Warsaw lineup, senior Jarred Brooks went 5-0 with four pins and a forfeiture. Also for Warsaw, Luis Munoz, Kyle Duzan and Miguel Delfin all went 4-1. The Tigers will be at the Dec. 27 Mishawaka Invitational.

In the loss to Bethany, LCA was led by Collin Price’s 13 points, while Zarek Finley had 12 and Teddy Harvey netted 11. Against Clinton, Calvin Prinsen had 15 for LCA and Price scored 14. LCA began the day with a 54-35 loss to Elkhart Christian, then the Lady Cougars lost 60-24 against South Bend Trinity, falling to 0-8 on the year. In the opening loss, senior Jo Boren led LCA with 14 points, then she scored 10 against Trinity. The Lady Cougars host their own tournament on Dec. 29 and 30.

Taking part in Saturday’s LaPorte Invitational, the Wawasee gymnastics team finished fourth out of six teams. Portage won the tournament with 22 points, while Wawasee scored eight. Individually, Wawasee’s tandem of Kim Garber and Tori Koble placed fifth with an average score of 32.6. The Lady Warriors are back in competition on Dec. 27 at the Elkhart Central Blazer Invitational.

Hosting a Northern Lakes Conference meet against Elkhart Memorial Saturday, the Warsaw boys swim team won 107-76. In the win, Nate Stone was a part of five first-place finishes. Stone won the 50 free and 100 free, while also joining Max Carter, Spencer Davidson and Caleb Snyder on the 200 free relay, as well as Jayden Parrett, Andrew Thrasher and Dominick Cesaretti on the winning 200 free relay. Stone closed his day with a win in the 400 free relay with Snyder, Cesaretti and Parrett. The Tigers host Wawasee Tuesday in another NLC clash.

The Wawasee boys swim team finished fifth out of 10 teams at their own invitational Saturday afternoon, while South Bend St. Joseph placed first with 423 points. Following St. Joe’s score, Columbia City had 189 points, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger had 174, Bremen had 165 and Wawasee finished with 138. Zac Hershberger had the Warriors top finish, placing second in the 100 free and 100 breast. The Warriors are back in action Tuesday at Warsaw.

In Saturday’s Northern Lakes Conference girls swim meet against Elkhart Memorial, the Warsaw Lady Tigers won 112-74 at home. In the win, Cynthia Juarez and Claire Wack each won two individual events, while also being a part of a winning relay. For Juarez, she won the 200 IM and 100 fly, while also being a member of the winning 200 medley relay with Malorie Rheinhardt, Ashley VanWormer and Jessica Sweatland. Wack won the 50 free and 100 free, while joining Meghan Boston, McKenzie Haines and Margot Rheinhardt on the first place 200 free relay. The Lady Tigers host No. 17 Wawasee Tuesday.
