AKRON — Outscoring the Winamac Lady Warriors 21-2 in the fourth quarter, and getting 38 points from senior Staci Groom, the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team won 62-43.
After finishing last season at 5-15, the Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings now sit at 7-2 on the year, having won six of their last seven games.
Scoring her career-best 38 points, Groom made 14 of 29 shots and also had four steals.
Also for Valley, senior Tory Keirn had 14 points to go with her team-high eight rebounds and five steals.
The Lady Vikings return to Three Rivers Conference play Saturday at home against Whitko.
Thursday in South Whitley Behind senior Karissa Olinske’s 19 points, the Whitko girls basketball team defeated the visiting West Noble Lady Chargers 49-35 Thursday night, snapping their four-game winning streak. Along with Olinske’s production, Whitko senior Micaela Sylvester also had 12 points, while junior Cagney Craig at nine. The 4-5 Lady Wildcats travel to Tippecanoe Valley Saturday night for a Three Rivers Conference game. BOYS SWIMMING Thursday in Syracuse Hosting the Plymouth boys swim team Thursday, the Wawasee Warriors dropped the Northern Lakes Conference meet 100-86. In the team loss, the Warriors did get wins from its 200 medley relay (Sebastian List, Zac Hershberger, Corey Kenworthy, Andrew Busse) and 200 free relay (List, Kenworthy, Luke Smith, Hershberger), while Busse also won the 200 IM and 500 free, Hershberger won the 50 free and 100 breast and List won the 200 free and 100 back. GIRLS SWIMMING Thursday in Syracuse In their 142-38 Northern Lakes Conference home win over Plymouth Thursday, the 17th-ranked Wawasee girls swim team won every event in the pool, setting pool and school records once again. In the 100 fly, senior Brittany Robinson broke her own pool and school records with a time of 56.79, which was 14 seconds faster than the boys winning time. In the 500 free, freshman Breanna Robinson set pool and school records with a time of 5:06.50, which was over 30 seconds faster than the winning boys time. Brittany Robinson also won the 100 back (58.09) and Breanna won the 200 free (1:5495), while teaming up with freshman Rachel Rozow and senior Sarah Rozow on the winning 400 free relay. Brittany Robinson was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay with senior Karla Allen, Hannah winter and senior Sarah Steele, while Breanna Robinson joined Sarah Rozow, Rachel Rozow and Steele on the first-place 200 free relay.
