Local 'Roadshow' Comes To Jail Museum

Bill Wilson would like to see a few arrowhead points, and he wouldn't mind a look at some pottery either.

Wilson, president of the Kosciusko County Archaeological Society, along with society members Marvin Galbreath and Trent Tillman, will appraise Indian artifacts during the Antiques Roadshow at the Old Jail Museum Saturday.

Janet Brooks will be on hand to appraise other items.

The "roadshow" is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the cost is $3 for three items.

The Old Jail Museum is at 121 N. Indiana St., Warsaw.

There are several special exhibits on display in the museum. For the past year, the museum's collection of vintage clothing has been evaluated, restored, catalogued and carefully packaged.

Currently on display are several Victorian-era, white, cotton and lace "lingerie" dresses.

An exhibit of W.H. Mershon memorabilia is on display in a glass case, featuring items not seen in the Warsaw Community Public Library exhibit a few months ago.

Mershon was the "Drummer Boy of Shiloh" during the Civil War and returned to Indiana to found a school of music in Warsaw and teach music at various universities.

His photographs, military medals, music programs, letters and personal journal were discovered in a house's closet in California a couple of years ago. Local resident Bob Tess purchased the collection and donated it to the Kosciusko Historical Society.
