Local Officials to Work State Volleyball Finals

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has announced that two local officials will work in the 40th annual State Volleyball Finals to be held this Saturday in Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University.

Warsaw’s Dan Richard and Akron’s Kirk Robinson have been assigned to work the class 1A final match between Wel-Del and Trinity Lutheran at 11 a.m. 

Richard has been officiating high school and college volleyball 30 years.  He has worked 25 volleyball sectionals, 18 regionals, 10 semistates, and this will be his eighth appearance at the state volleyball finals.

Richard and his wife Becky have been married for 36 years with two children, Erin and Kelly. He is a 1971 graduate of Carmel High School and 1975 graduate of Ball State University where he was a member of the Ball State University men’s volleyball team. 

He is employed as Director of the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission.

Robinson has been assigned 23 volleyball sectionals, 16 regionals, five semistates, and this will be his seventh state volleyball finals. 

Robinson and his wife Kim have been married for 32 years with two children, Kyle and Kara.  He is a 1977 graduate from Tippecanoe Valley High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science in 1979. 

He is employed as purchasing manager at Pike Lumber Company in Akron.

Richard and Robinson have been working as volleyball officiating partners since 1990 working over 1,400 high school matches together.  In 21 years of officiating this will be the first state volleyball tournament match the two have worked to together. 

Richard and Robinson are both members of the Northern Indiana Officials Association.
