Veteran ‘Stand Down’ Wednesday

Goodwill and its partners have organized a “Military Veteran Stand Down” to provide assistance to vets from noon to 5 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion, Warsaw.

Veterans will receive information on employment and housing opportunities, details pertaining to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, health care, dental care, free personal care items, free clothing, care kits, backpacks, transportation to and from the event, legal assistance, free dinner and more. To receive these benefits bring a DD214, Veteran ID or Military ID. Families are welcome to attend.

During the Vietnam War, a Stand Down was a time away from the battlefield when soldiers could rest from combat and take care themselves and each other.

Today a Stand Down refers to a community-based intervention event that integrates, at one site and at one time, many resources and services that homeless or at-risk veteran and military families may need.

Time Change Means Extra Hour For Alcoholic Beverage Sales

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Drinkers will have an extra hour to purchase alcoholic beverages early Sunday.

The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission announced today it will allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday to continue until what would be 3 a.m. if not for the time change.

Because the change to standard time from daylight saving time changes clocks to 1 a.m. at 2 a.m. Sunday, alcoholic beverage outlets will have one additional hour during which they may serve or sell alcoholic beverages.
