Forty new grants totaling more than $950,000 have been awarded for lake and river enhancement projects in Indiana, the Department of Natural Resources announced.
Nearly three-quarters of the projects are in northeast Indiana lakes. The grants pay for invasive aquatic vegetation management, sediment removal and logjam removal.
The projects were submitted by local sponsors who commit to sharing a portion of the cost.
The DNR’s portion comes from a fee annually paid by boat owners to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Funding for Kosciusko County lakes includes the following: – Beaver Dam and Loon lakes – aquatic vegetation management survey, plan and treatment, $6,368. – Big Chapman and Little Chapman lakes – aquatic vegetation management survey, plan and treatment, $43,500. – Dewart Lake – aquatic vegetation management survey, plan and treatment, $35,880. – Lake Tippecanoe, James Lake and Oswego Lake – aquatic vegetation management survey, plan and treatment, $28,400. – Lake Wawasee and Syracuse Lake – aquatic vegetation management survey and plan for starry stonewort, $14,500. – Lake Wawasee – sediment removal project, $50,000.
