An attempted break-in at the residence of an Indiana State Police officer Sunday resulted in a manhunt and chase, but no suspect.
Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, Officer Jeff Kastenschmidt was watching television at home when he heard a noise at his home in Fox Run Addition, near Warsaw. He said today he saw a man near his garage, and ran outside. By the time he got outside, Kastenschmidt said, the man was gone.
A neighbor also saw the suspect, and the police called in the K-9 unit and a helicopter. The K-9 tracked the suspect and lost the scent.
The Kastenschmidt residence is on the edge of the addition, and a woods, cornfield and swamp are nearby.
Kastenschmidt said while he was walking around the addition, the suspect apparently returned to his house and attempted and failed to get in.
He described the suspect as approximately 6 feet tall and dressed in dark colored clothing.
