Local Group Spends Spring Break Stocking Food PantryWhile most high school kids spend their spring break sleeping in or going to warm-weather locales, a group of students from the area spent part of their spring break helping others. The group traveled to Colorado from April 2 to 9 as part of 2nd Mile Adventures, a local group that looks to develop people both physically and spiritually. The group was started more than 30 years ago by brothers Brent and Rod Wildman. The recent ski trip was unique in that while the kids were able to hit the slopes, they also spent time helping out at Mountain Family Center. Mountain Family Center is located in Grand County, Colorado and serves as both a food pantry and thrift store. “We decided let’s put together a food and clothing drive, “ said David Wildman of 2nd Miles Adventures. So before the group headedwest, they collected more than 20 bags of clothing and 20 boxes of food for the center. The contributions helped fully stock the center. The kids also got some cash donations but didn’t count it. “On our way back to skiing they called to say the money we donated was enough to help pay for the food bank’s delivery of items,” said Wildman. In all, 46 kids attended with 26 adults. Wildman said at first some of the kids weren’t sure what to make of the trip but as soon as they arrived they all chipped in. They helped stock shelves, sort clothes, unload truck and even did office work like stuffing envelopes. “It was pretty awesome to see,” said Wildman. Wildman said they are looking to organize a group to go in the summer. Wildman said the group welcomes anyone from about 13 and older.
