Telephone solicitations for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program do not benefit the local programs.
According to Deputy Tim Sammons of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, at least a half dozen people who received such calls were concerned enough to contact him to question their legitimacy.
Neither the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department nor the Warsaw Police Department is conducting fund-raising campaigns for their DARE programs.
Anyone wanting to contribution to the DARE program can do so by contacting the department he or she chooses.
A donation to the WPD DARE program would benefit students in the Warsaw Community Schools system, while contributions to the KCSD DARE program would go toward furthering the program at Tippecanoe Valley, Wawasee and Whitko schools.
DARE is designed to teach youngsters the dangers of drugs and other addictive substances as well as to avoid violence in their lives. The program is directed at the exit grade in elementary school and also incorporates lessons at other grade levels.
For more information on the DARE program or to make a donation, contact Sammons at 267-5667 or Sgt. Terry Polston at 372-9511.
