Local Dance School Students Win National Scholarships

Posted
Two students from Debra Collier's School of Dance recently attended the 2010 Winter Tap JAMboree and scholarship audition, hosted by the Chicago Human Rhythm Project.

Desiree Lantz, daughter of John and Michelle Lantz, Ligonier, has been a student at DCSD for 11 years, a member of the studio's competitive and performance company, Class Act Dance Troupe, and of the studio's teaching assistant program.

Grace Eib, daughter of Tracy and Lisa Eib, Bourbon, has been a student at DCSD for 14 years and is also a member of CADT.

Each of the students competed against more than 45 other students in both group and individual tap elements and was awarded the top 2010 Leo Harris Tap Scholarship. The scholarships provide students with the opportunity to study in an intensive tap program with world-renowned masters such as CHRP 2010 Artist in Residence and Emmy award winner Jason Samuels Smith, Sam Weber and more.

"We are so proud of the girls. To be recognized and rewarded by such a prestigious group of judges is quite an accomplishment," said Debra Collier, studio owner. "They are dedicated and talented young ladies that have a great passion for tap. We always encourage our students to take every opportunity to further their education. To have the opportunity to study with the faculty of CHRP will be a great experience."For more information about Debra Collier's School of Dance, call 574-267-7055 or visit the Web site at www.collierdance.com
