Local Cross Country Teams Compete At New Prairie Invite

NEW CARLISLE — Competing without senior Ellis Coon, the 11th-ranked Warsaw boys cross country team finished sixth at Saturday’s New Prairie Invitational. Competing in Class 3A, the Tigers scored 184 points, while ninth-ranked Valparaiso won with 85, Portage was second (114) and 18th-ranked Northridge finished third (119). Warsaw’s top performer was Owen Glogovsky, who finished sixth in a time of 16:43. In the Class 3A girls race, Warsaw placed 11th with 299 points, with No. 14 Penn’s 93 points winning the race. The Warsaw Lady Tigers were paced by Allison Miller, who finished 11th in 19:23. In Class 2A, the Tippecanoe Valley girls finished 23rd and the boys were 27th. The Triton cross country teams also competed at the meet in Class 1A, as the boys were third, led by Cordell Sherow’s 24th-place finish, while the girls were 13th. Warsaw hosts Wawasee Tuesday at the high school, with Tippecanoe Valley travelling to take on Taylor and North Miami the same day. Triton’s next meet is Saturday’s Culver Academies Invitational. The Whitko boys soccer team got its first victory of the season Saturday, winning 3-2 at North Miami. In the win, Whitko received goals from Devin Goggin, Luckson Stieglitz and Cole Findley. The Warsaw volleyball team had a strong showing at Saturday’s Michigan City Invitational, falling in the championship match against Mishawaka. After downing Class 3A No. 7 Fort Wayne Concordia (26-24, 26-24), Valparaiso (25-20, 26-24) and Elkhart Memorial (26-24, 25-19), it fell 25-21, 25-19 against Mishawaka. Earning a spot on the all-tournament team, Katie Voelz had 31 kills and seven blocks for Warsaw, while Emily Poe had 26 kills and 31 digs and Laura Craig posted 25 kills and 33 digs, each being named to the team as well. The Wawasee volleyball team finished as the runner-up at its own tournament Saturday, while Whitko was seventh out of eight teams. In the championship match, Wawasee fell 25-12, 25-16 against South Bend St. Joseph. Before the championship match, Wawasee defeated Garrett (25-21, 25-15), Wabash (25-17, 16-25, 15-13) and Culver Girls Academy (25-8, 25-17). Wawasee’s Lydia Katsaropoulos and Alli Ousley were each named to the all-tournament team. Wawasee visits Warsaw Thursday for a Pink Out match, while Whitko’s next action is Tuesday at Wabash.
