Ric Moore, owner of the R & B Car Company, Warsaw, will be traveling to Mobile, Ala., Saturday with nine employees to help Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
After receiving a donation from Snyder International of a 53-foot semi-tractor trailer, Moore and his employees decided to fill up the vehicle with food and contribute their time and effort to support the Gulf Coast victims.
"We all got together to talk about what happened," Moore said. "And we decided we needed to help. This time we're going through with it and doing all we can for the people affected down there."
Moore and others from his group, including Troy Richards, Chad Loflen, Bill Rohark and others, will leave from Warsaw at 10 a.m. Saturday with plans to spend three days in the area.
Snyder said his group of volunteers will accept donations right up to the time they leave Saturday morning.
The group will work alongside efforts led by Alabama U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions and the Volunteers of America program.
"This is America, these are our people," Moore said. "They need our support."
Other Warsaw companies and organizations are donating to the cause as well.
Betty's Cake Shop will be contributing 10 percent of all sales to relief efforts through the Warsaw Community Church and/or the Red Cross.
The Warsaw Community High School is also in the process of conducting a hurricane relief drive, and are collecting food and hygiene products from students and faculty. Collection bins will be placed at the Tigers Athletic Complex during the football game scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight.
Lakeview Middle School is also collecting items from students for donation to the Red Cross. Students have brought in food items, blankets and other daily supplies for the cause.
