INDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw Community High School graduate Aaron Wainscott is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Dave Wolkins (R-Warsaw) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2020 legislative session.
Wainscott, a Kosciusko County resident, is the son of Brent and Candy Wainscott. He currently attends Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, majoring in policy studies.
“This internship has been a great opportunity,” Wainscott said. “I’ve learned a lot at the Statehouse, and have really enjoyed working with all of the legislators and staff. Being able to apply what I've learned in the classroom with a real world experience has been invaluable. It's confirmed this is what I want to do upon graduation."
As a policy intern, Wainscott helps report daily bill progress to the senior staff, occasionally acts as a bill reader on the House floor, and informs legislators on content of bills and how it relates to the Indiana code.
“With this internship, Aaron is developing a tremendous skillset,” Wolkins said. “He and others assist with important tasks like helping draft talking points, researching important information for members and staff, and compiling data for members. These are great skills to have as he progresses, and I have no doubt he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
