Ideal Construction of Warsaw has just completed a new home in Nappanee that is designed to be a Zero Energy Home. Ideal has been building homes for more than 35 years and is now focusing on a new area of growing interest in the American public. Ideal Construction has just recently become an authorized dealer of New Energy Homes, which is a newly formed division of Borkholder Buildings in Nappanee.
Borkholder Buildings has been designing pre-engineered buildings for over 47 years in the commercial, institutional, agricultural, and residential markets but has begun focusing more on energy efficiency of buildings.
This house just received an award for "Building of the Year" this past week from the National Frame Building Association.
By definition, a Zero Energy building produces as much energy as it consumes, therefore there are no energy costs for those living there.
This was achieved through the energy efficient design of the exterior building envelope, having the most efficient heat and cooling source, and then matching that with a renewable energy source that would provide the electricity to power it.
Consumer demand is growing in these areas and consumers will continue to explore the possibilities of being less dependant on escalating energy costs in the future. National residential energy costs have risen on average 17 percent the past three years.
They are planning an open house March 5,6,12,13 from 1 to 8 p.m., to allow those interested to come and see this project. The address of the house is 806 E. Market, Nappanee.
