Local Author Reads To STEM Students

Local Author Reads To STEM StudentsOn Monday, Jonna Watson visited Christi Overman’s second-grade classroom at Washington STEM Academy to read “Ruby the Rubberband Learns Her Limits: A Case of Being Too Stretchy.”

Thanks to the donations of some local book lovers, each student also got to take home an autographed copy of the book.

In the book, children learn about the main character, Ruby, who wants to please others, while struggling as she is stretching herself thin. This is a great book for kids and adults alike to understand their own personal limits and learn some valuable lessons along the way, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools.

Students in the class had just had a writing celebration on April 21 to share their own books that they had written this school year. Because of their newfound knowledge of writing their own books, they had a lot of questions for Watson about the writing process and how she came up with the idea for her book.

“Getting to meet Jonna was inspiring because we often don’t get to meet the writers of the books that we love so much,” Overman said.

Watson is a WCS parent herself, with four kids at Harrison Elementary. She is a school psychologist and has a podcast called “The 5 Minute Inner Child.” This is her second children’s book. Both “Ruby the Rubberband Learns Her Limits” and “A Great Lakes Tale: Superior Learns She’s Part of the Flow” are available on Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com.
