Local Athletes Advance Out Of Track Sectionals

ROCHESTER — The Plymouth girls track and field team nipped the Culver Girls Academy for Tuesday’s Rochester Sectional title, while Manchester came in third.
Plymouth won the title with 129 points, followed closely by CGA’s 128, with Manchester scoring 76, while Triton placed sixth with 44.5 points and Tippecanoe Valley finished eighth with 39 points.
The top four individuals and relays advance to Tuesday’s Warsaw Regional.
For Manchester, Bekah Brunn was the sectional champion in the 100 hurdles, winning in 16.40 seconds, Lindsey Dierks won the high jump by clearing 5-1 and its 400 relay of Maddie Burton, Lindsey Budnik, Bekah Brunn and Lille Terrill won 52.37 seconds.
Triton’s Megan Howdeshell also claimed a title, winning the discus with a distance of 135-2 feet.
Other regional qualifiers for Manchester were its 3200 relay (3rd, 10:55.08), its 1600 relay (4th, 4:27.83), Brunn in the 300 hurdles (3rd, 52.36), Lindsey Budnik in the long jump (2nd, 15-5) and Nikki Frieden in the shot put (4th, 31-11.25).
For Triton, regional qualifiers were its 3200 relay (4th, 10:59.99), Breanna Lemler in the 400 (4th, 1:04.47) and Howdeshell in the shot put (36-3.75).
Valley’s qualifiers are Caylie Teel in the 100 (4th, 13.22), Catherine Leadford in the 300 hurdles (2nd, 49.42), Jazzmine Brown in the high jump (3rd, 4-10), Mikayla Wireman in the long jump (4-10), as well as Connor Fraser in the shot put (4th, 31-11.25) and discus (4th, 101-4).

Tuesday in Bluffton
While the Columbia City girls track and field team won Tuesday’s Bluffton Sectional with 113 points, Whitko finished seventh with 35. By finishing in the top four in any individual or relay event, athletes advanced to Tuesday’s Fort Wayne Northrop Regional and Whitko advanced three. Moving on to the regional from Whitko are Micaela Sylvester in the 100 hurdles (4th, 16.95), the 400 relay (4th, 52.88) and Josie Sparks in the 400 (4th, 1:00.79).
