Lloyd A. Woolman, 84, died at 6:23 a.m. Feb. 9, 2009, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, where he resided.
He was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Preston, Wash., to Bernard and Pearl Johnson Woolman. On Dec. 8, 1946, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Barnes, who died Dec. 27, 1990.
He was a professor at Grace College, Winona Lake, in the physical education department, where he was the past athletic director and dean of men. He also was pastor of West Etna Community Church and in California, Alaska and Virginia. He lived in Arlington, Wash., for 18 years before moving to Grace Village Retirement Community in October 2008. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, discharged Oct. 17, 1945. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church and a past member of Warsaw Kiwanis Club. He received Coach of the Year in the MCC Conference in soccer and track and field.
Surviving are two sons, James (and spouse Janiece Widman) Woolman, Arlington, Wash., and Gary (and spouse Becky Kent) Woolman, Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Woolman, Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Village Retirement Community Chapel with Pastor Rick Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Calling is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Chapel, Fort Wayne, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at Grace Village Chapel.
