Lincoln Students Make A Difference

Posted
Lincoln Elementary School's student council has been busy this year trying to make a difference in the community.

Their first project was helping collect food and supplies for the local animal shelter. Members of the council then made a trip to the shelter to spend time with the animals and learn how the supplies were used.

Later they chose to help a former Lincoln Lion, Krysta Merritt Fussle, a young mother afflicted with leukemia. Posters were made and money was collected in the classrooms. The student council, along with other student volunteers, sold wristbands that said, "Lincoln Lions Care" for the cause. They raised a total of $1,106.62. Krysta Fussle, along with her family, was able to attend the school's Christmas sing-a-long to receive the check and meet the students.

The student council also voted to donate a Christmas tree and ornaments for the school. The members set up the tree and decorated it.

In recent weeks the student council partnered with the local Boys and Girls Club in a canned food drive. The majority of the food collected will be distributed by the Boys and Girls Club. The student council gave a portion of the food items collected to families in need that attend Lincoln Elementary. They collected more than 500 food items in total.

The student council created a banner to send overseas to encourage the military men and women. The entire student body signed the banner. In addition to this project the council collected donations for a Christmas present for a beloved staff member.

Student Council sponsors Amy Rosswurm, Pam Carroll and Darren Bunn join the rest of the staff in applauding all of the hard work the student council members and other student volunteers accomplished.
