On Feb. 27 Lincoln's chess team had two teams participate in the chess regional at Goshen High School. The third-grade and under group was made up of Adrian Castaneda, Keller Swartzentruber, Lydia Harrison, Shelby Paseka and Lachlan Lennox. They played teams from Eastwood, Prairie View, Madison and Chandler. When all rounds were totaled the team received the third-place trophy, and qualified for the state tournament. The sixth-grade and under group with Kyle Christenberry, Drake Swartzentruber, Kyle Hood, David Homme and Kyle Harter drew the hardest team in their category for the first round, Canterbury. It was a devastating loss for the team, but they didn't let it get them down. They won the next two rounds playing Parkside and Eastwood. The last round they played a team from Madison. The teams drew (tied), but Lincoln had just enough points from all the rounds to push them into fourth place, qualifying them for the state tournament.
