Ligonier Man Drowns Saturday At Tri-County

Posted

NORTH WEBSTER - A 50-year-old Ligonier man was found dead Saturday near North Webster from an apparent drowning.

According to a preliminary accident investigation report from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, William M. Bonar was frog hunting during the early hours of June 22 at Bufflehead Pond in Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area near North Webster.

After he failed to return to his vehicle, a search of the water and surrounding area was conducted by conservation officers and Noble County deputies. His body was found at the south end of Bufflehead Pond in 6 to 7 feet of water.

Investigators believe Bonar got tangled in weeds while wading into the pond and fell face down into the water.

Although investigators initially determined Bonar was the victim of an apparent drowning, an investigation continues into the exact cause of death.
