WINONA LAKE - The annual "Light the Night" walk to raise funds for bloods cancers will be Thursday in Winona Lake.
A ceremony will be at Rodeheaver Auditorium at 7 p.m. The walk around Winona Lake begins at 7:25 p.m.
"Light the Night" is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fundraising walk to raise funds for blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma.
This year's walk honoree is Jason Slone, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in February 2004 and now is in remission. Slone is a resident of Silver Lake and employed by Biomet.
More than 1,000 supporters participated in last year's walk and raised $62,000. The funds raised during the event benefit blood cancer research.
Participants will walk along the route carrying lighted balloons, white for survivors and red for supporters.
Beverages and food will be provided free to participants by local sponsors during the event.
Walkers who raise $100 or more will receive a t-shirt and illuminated balloon. For more information on the walk or to pre-register a team, contact Kathy Burner at 260-422-8389 or 877-422-8389.
People also may register the night of the walk from 5 to 7 p.m.
