License Branch In Syracuse To Stay Open

Posted

SYRACUSE -ÊNo, the Syracuse license branch is not closing.

"We are staying open. They are not going to close us," Sandy Entwisle, Syracuse license branch manager, said Friday.

Last year, 49 license branches were proposed to be closed around Indiana during the next several years. Two of the license branches that were to be closed were those in Syracuse and North Manchester.

The reason the license branches were proposed to be closed is simple -Êmoney.

A branch-by-branch fiscal study was performed during 1997 to find a way to get the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles out of the red. The BMV determined that closing 49 branches would best solve the problem, especially with technology making BMV transactions easier. The Syracuse license branch would not have closed until September 2002.

Entwisle said people ask daily if the Syracuse license branch will close.

No, it will not close.

The Syracuse and Warsaw branches will close temporarily June 17 for training.

Syracuse license branch hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Extended hours on Thursday are from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The branch is closed weekends.
