Library Tracks 'Typical Week' For State Officials

Posted

Patrons visit the library at the rate of one per minute. These figures and others were recorded during a recent state-required "typical week."

During the week of Oct. 15, 9,448 items were checked out as 4,256 patrons entered the building, according to Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek. The library was open the usual 66 hours.

Statistics for the Annual State Library Report also showed a record number of patron cards were scanned during checkout and circulation, up over last year.

The information was provided at the library board of trustees' meeting Monday.

Honor Missler was introduced as a part-time administration graphic assistant.

Missler, originally from Alaska, is a Grace College graduate. Since her hiring date, Oct. 15, she has redesigned the library's Web site www.wcpl.lib.in.us.com

New to the Internet page is an application for meeting room reservations, available to groups that have reserved the rooms before.

Missler demonstrated the INSPIRE project link, also known as Indiana's Virtual Library. INSPIRE links to five university databases, newspaper sources, state library catalogues and encyclopedias.

Because of the System Access Management computer program, the staff is no longer taking reservations to use the Internet- connected computers. Through SAM, patrons may log onto the computers themselves, and Joni Brookins said there is usually a computer available.

In other business the board:

• Set the year-end meeting as Dec. 27 at 9 a.m.

• Held an executive session prior to the meeting to discuss the director's job performance.

"It was a resoundingly positive evaluation," said Larry Chamberlain, who presided. "We commend Ann for her leadership and excellent staff."

Board members are Larry Chamberlain, John Yingling, Joel Curry and Tony Etienne. Mark Morrison, Caroline Nye and Ruth Jones were absent.
