Library To Fill Youth Room Position

Posted

A position will be filled at the Warsaw Library after board members met Monday to review approval of the addition.

Stu Griner, now associate librarian of the children's department, will assume the role of youth information librarian.

"It is important for us to have a presence in the the youth room to answer questions and direct our visitors," Ann Zydek, library director, said. "The focus on interaction and collection is essential in this area of the library."

The starting date of the duty has not yet been scheduled, but the board predicts Griner to begin under the new role in the fall. Though the position is not new to the library, it has remained unfilled for three years.

The board also discussed technology plans and examined options for a potential vending system to be used for the printing and copying demands of the library. A "smart card" system was discussed, which would allow patrons to access personal accounts via their library card, therefore eliminating the need to contact the front desk every time printing or copying was needed.

"The process of smart cards is currently a goal to work towards. Ideally we would like to grow in this process to the point where the staff can be taken out of the equation, giving us more time to assist in other ways," Joni Brookins, assistant director, said.

Discussion arose involving the reconstruction of the library entrance and parking lot. The board examined two options for the building, both hoping to create a safer environment for library visitors. A decision for the new entrance layout will come in the next five to six years depending on the library's budget.

Spanish translations of the library's information pamphlet are now available at the library. The board was presented with the new copies, which hope to assist in communications with a larger public audience.

Warsaw Library board members include Tony Etienne, Mark Morrison, Joel Curry, Paulette Sauders,Wendy Kovach, John Yingling and Ruth Jones.
