Library 'Thinks Pink'Warsaw Community Public Library wants the community to "Think Pink" in October.
WCPL is joining the fight against breast cancer during October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
WCPL has set aside Monday for a "Pink Out" day to raise community awareness of breast cancer. During that day, staff members will be wearing pink tops. Library visitors, area residents and businesses are encouraged to join library employees in wearing pink also on that day.
"We want to do our part to help fight breast cancer and raise awareness of this often tragic disease afflicting women worldwide," said Ann Zydek, Warsaw library director. "Nearly every library staff member has been touched by breast cancer, either directly or indirectly."
Breast cancer bookmarks and information sheets on early detection and warning signs will be available at the circulation desk. Visitors can also sign a banner of support in the front lobby to honor survivors or those who have lost their battle against breast cancer. A special book display on breast cancer will be on exhibit on the second level.
Recent research indicates that one in every eight women will get breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes in the United States and every 29 seconds around the world and can strike men as well. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
