Library Renovation Projects Nearing Completion

Two renovation projects will soon be completed at the Warsaw Community Public Library, improving the youth and computer service departments.

Rick Ellsworth, project manager, said both undertakings, which began Jan. 3, were nearing completion, with only the installation of doors still scheduled. The completion date is within the next few weeks.Ê

With the addition of the youth services department and additional staff in 2005, WCPL opted to expand its work space, which Ellsworth said lacked efficient privacy and storage for employees.

The new look will consist of a department office at the south end of the youth area. Windows inside the office will allow Youth Service Librarian Stuart Griner the ability to watch over department activity with the privacy of a closed office door.

The new office also will open up storage area in what is now being used by youth service employees.

"Our youth services is well used with considerable traffic throughout the week," Ellsworth said. "The new area will help to provide work space for small promotional items and supporting media as part of our educational function."

January WCPL statistics show more than 10,000 books were checked out from the youth department, and Griner stated in his annual report that activity in the learning centers and reference desk increased.

"We've opened up space for a new area to focus on story-time purposes and a questions area," Ellsworth said. "This will be a nice, suitable improvement for (this department)."

The computer services department will have the luxury of a new work station. The renovated area will connect to the department's office, and will provide much needed room for the library's computer management and technology assistance services.
