To provide a more accurate picture of how many borrowers the Warsaw Community Public Library has, the names of people who haven't borrowed in the last four years were wiped out of the library's system recently, the library board was told at its Monday meeting.

Approximately 5,000 borrowers were taken out of the system. A group of 216 persons with debt of $50 or more was retained. Anyone who hasn't used their library card since 1995 will have to re-register.

The new borrower figures will be included in February's monthly report.

In December, there were 18,381 borrowers. Total items circulated in 1999 were 439,813. Fiction books and videos were the most borrowed in December.

In other business, library director Ann Zydek said the process of upgrading the lift to an elevator will begin soon. The architectural fee for the project is $4,000 and the board has estimated the cost of the elevator construction as approximately $60,000. The money for the project is already earmarked for the upgrade. Specifications for the project will be completed first, she said.

The library book sale will be Feb. 25 and 26. Book donations are being accepted at the library.

Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library is closed Sundays. The library Web site is at www.wcpl.lib.in.us

Mark Morrison was approved as board president; Larry Chamberlain, vice president; Joel Curry, secretary; and John Yingling, treasurer. Other board members include Irv Lindemuth, Ruth Jones and Caroline Nye.

A report of the library's 1999 investments was presented during the annual board of finance meeting after the board of trustees meeting. Investments were made at three different banks, with the most money being invested at the bank that offered the highest interest rate.

An amount of $2,948,200 was invested at Lake City Bank; $1,008,100 at First Source Bank; and $593,300 at Mutual Federal Savings Bank. Total invested was $4,549,600.

Finance board president, secretary and treasurer are Morrison, Curry and John Yingling, respectively.
