Library Joins Breast Cancer FightWarsaw Community Public Library wants you to "Think Pink" during October.

WCPL is joining the fight against breast cancer during October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. WCPL has set aside Oct. 12 for a "Pink Out" day to raise community awareness of breast cancer. During that day, staff members will wear pink tops. Library visitors are encouraged to join library employees in wearing pink also on that day."We want to do our part to help fight breast cancer and raise awareness of this often-tragic disease afflicting both men and women worldwide," said Ann Zydek, WCPL director.

Nearly every library staff member has been touched by breast cancer either directly or indirectly.

Breast cancer bookmarks and information sheets on early detection and warning signs will be available at the circulation desk. Visitors can also sign a banner of support in the front lobby to honor survivors or those who have lost their battle against breast cancer. A special book display on breast cancer will be on exhibit on the second level.

A class on yoga positions specifically for those battling breast cancer before, during or after treatment is being held later in the day at 6:30 p.m. The instructor, Barb Reyner from the Cancer Care Center, will demonstrate and share the benefits of yoga. Class size is limited so people are urged to register quickly online or at the upper-level adult reference desk.

Recent research indicates that one in every eight women will get breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. In fact, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States and every 29 seconds around the world, and can strike men as well. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
