Library Deals With Ups And Downs

The Warsaw Community Library Board of Trustees was informed Monday the handicapped lift failed again in September, and the cooling problems in the computer lab have been addressed.

Library Director Ann Zydek recommended to the board the handicapped lift be replaced by a traditional elevator, at an estimated cost of $30,000.

"We initially thought replacing the lift would cost $50,000 or more, but Otis Elevator can install a new elevator, with the necessary trim work for $30,000," she said.

Zydek said the total cost could be reduced further if a buyer can be found for the lift.

Zydek also informed the board a new compressor has been installed for the cooling system's chiller. It was determined the cause of the failure was a reverse water flow, contrary to the original specifications.

The chiller failure has caused the temperature in the computer lab to rise to nearly 90 degrees. This can cause the main library server to shut down.

In other business, business manager Renee Sweeney told the board the library renovation project is essentially complete with final work on landscaping the only item left to be paid for, at $7,000.

Zydek also announced the library will be closed Nov. 11 for a staff in-service training day.
