Library users who do not live in the Kosciusko County library district will be required to pay more for library cards at the Warsaw Community Public Library.
WCPL Board of Trustees approved Monday a policy for individuals, students, senior citizens and families wanting to purchase a library card who do not live in the library district.
The increase is to meet standards for a new formula created by the state, according to WCPL Director Ann Zydek.
The annual individual fee for a library card is $75, a $2 increase.
The annual fee for students ages preschool to 12th grade and senior citizens who do not live in the district is $37.50, a $1.50 increase. The annual family fee for residents to purchase a library card is $187.50, a $5.50 increase.
A four-month card may be purchased during any month of the year.
The four-month card rate for an individual increased to $25, a $1.50 increase; for students and senior citizens to $12.50, a 25 cents increase; and a family fee at $62.50, a $1.50 increase.
The board also approved a cash-handling policy that will require library patrons, as of April 1, to make transactions at the circulation desk by cash or credit card only. Zydek said the library has seen less checks being used by patrons.
Officers for 2008 were elected and include Tony Etienne as president; Mark Morrison as vice president; John Yingling as secretary; Ruth Jones as treasurer; and Sandy Carmichael as assistant secretary/treasurer.
A board of finance slate of officers was recommended and will be elected at the February meeting. Recommendations include Ruth Jones as president and Mark Morrison as secretary.
Etienne introduced Community Relations Director Kathy Stutzman, who started her duties Monday at the library. Stutzman replaces Zack Doppelt, who resigned.
The board also:
n Approved Feb. 11 as a board retreat date where the board will meet and discuss goals for 2008 after the regularly scheduled meeting.
n Approved hiring two new positions to assist the library with shelving duties.
