Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees Monday named a company to update its integrated library system.
Joni Brookins, WCPL assistant library director, said the library's eight-member technology task force has met for the past year to discuss updating its library system.
The committee recommended The Library Corp., West Virginia, to update its system, which the board approved. The task force also reviewed four other proposals. All of the companies gave demonstrations to library staff on its systems from September to November.
The Library Corp. offers a public catalog system and will allow library patrons to provide book reviews on the library's Web site.
The system also will allow library staff to display in a scrolling system popular books by season and category, and allow patrons to browse books by book jacket.
Brookins said the goal is to have the system in operation by August.
She said she will notify the companies of the board's decision by letter. She will contact The Library Corp. immediately to start working on the contract for the system.
Also during the meeting, Rick Ellsworth, WCPL facility manager, said the maintenance office flooring at the library needs to be replaced because it is wearing out. He said the library is looking into options to replace the flooring.
The board also approved policy changes, including meeting room rentals for non-profits organizations will be $10 per hour and for-profit organizations wanting to rent rooms will be $40 per hour.
An annual salary for the librarian was approved at $80,829, and the assistant library director's salary was approved at $70,366 annually.
Another policy change approved is that public library access card holders are allowed to check out all circulating materials, including books, DVDs, music and audio books. The access card borrowers are not eligible for interlibrary loan service through WCPL.
The board also approved a slate of officers for 2009, including board president Tony Etienne; vice president Mark Morrison; secretary John Yingling; treasurer Ruth Jones; assistant secretary and treasurer Sandy Carmichael; and members Joel Curry and Paulette Sauders.
