Library Board OKs Capital Project Plan

Following a public hearing, Warsaw's library board approved a capital project plan Monday outlining where funds will be spent throughout the next three years.

The plan focused on restructuring the library's front entrance, with changes to be made to the electronic doors, front stairwell and the installation of a possible outside canopy.

Library Director Ann Zydek said board members currently are cooperating with contracted architects to determine the best strategy for revamping the library's entrance, which ideally would create a safer environment for patrons and allow for more spaces in the library's parking lot.

Additional funds in the capital project also will be set aside for the purchase, lease, maintenance and repair of computer hardware and software in the building, a factor the board believes to be important for the library to best serve the public.

But complications could arise from a problem the library currently faces with its humidification system, which, while working well in the upstairs level, allows the downstairs to become too dry for both patron's comfort and the safety of the books.

Companies have been contacted for the possible repair of the equipment, but no exact solution has yet been determined. The library received bids for the project this month, and took them under advisement.

Present were board members Tony Etienne, Mark Morrison, Ruth Jones, Wendy Kovach and Paulette Sauders. Joel Curry and John Yingling were absent,
