A circulation report for 2007 was discussed during Monday's Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees meeting.

WCPL Director Ann Zydek said there were 301,241 books checked out in 2007, a 13,546 increase over 2006.

There were 10,627 periodicals checked out; 169,525 videos; 51,199 recordings; 2,479 headphones; 11,150 video games and 200 skill kits. The total number of items checked out in 2007 was 546,421, compared to 523,405 in 2006.

Zydek said the library has seen an increase in video and audio materials being checked out.

The board also reviewed statistics for January, including adult circulation checking out 29,523 items in January and youth circulation checking out 17,001 items.

Zydek informed the board she went to a conference on poverty Jan. 24 at the Orthopedic Capital Center. She said library employees will take what they learned from the conference to assist its underserved library patrons.

Zydek said February is Library Lover's Month to honor the existence of libraries.

Community Relations Assistant Kathy Stutzman said she is working with Ivy Tech Community College to bring a historical documents display to the library in March.

The display is currently at the college, and includes originals and copies of documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Federalist papers that the public is allowed to touch.

"We want to make the library a cultural place by allowing our patrons to touch the documents at our library," Stutzman said.

Board members are President Tony Etienne, John Yingling, Paulette Sauders, Joel Curry, Sandy Carmichael, Ruth Jones and Mark Morrison.
