Lewis Bert “Lew” Goshert, 86, died Dec. 19, 2012, in Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester. He was born March 8, 1926, in Atwood, to Ronald Andy and Ruth Burt Goshert. A 1944 graduate of Warsaw High School, he enlisted March 7, 1944, and entered the U.S. Navy June 8, 1944, in Warsaw. He served as a pharmacist’s mate, and was honorably discharged July 8, 1946, through Great Lakes, Ill. Living most of his life in Warsaw, he worked with his father at Skelgas, and he was a self-employed long-haul truck driver for more than 20 years. He belonged to Masonic Lodge 73 F & AM, Warsaw, Mizpah Shriners, Fort Wayne, and American Legion 49. He loved sports and played football and basketball in high school; he also played fast pitch softball for the traveling Warsaw AA team and played a short stint with the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. He was a basketball referee for 19 years and a member of the Northern Indiana Officials Association. Surviving are one son, Gary (and spouse Cindy) Goshert, Ligonier; one daughter, Vonnie (and spouse David) Miller, Asheville, S.C.; one brother, Bill (and spouse Dede) Goshert, Warsaw; one sister, Martha Houser, Fort Wayne; three grandsons: Brian Hepler, Wilmington, N.C., David (and spouse Jenny) Hepler, Langhorne, Pa., and Matthew Action, Ashville, N.C.; three granddaughters: Neile Action, Ashville, N.C., Gretchen Goshert, Milford, and Megan (and spouse Brett) Grimes, Brownsburg, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jacob, Justin, Colin and Sienna. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Luke Miller. Services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
