Editor, Times-Union: I would urge our local officials to consider supporting the placement of the entire state of Indiana in the Central Time Zone. If we are to conform to the standard of changing our clocks, we should conform to the standard adopted by the rest of the world in setting time zones.
If we accept the Greenwich Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time as the standard, the border of the Central and Eastern Time Zones would be placed at the 85th parallel. Checking the map, that puts the entire state of Indiana squarely in the Central Time Zone, as the 85th parallel is located east of the Indiana/Ohio border.
With the exception of Michigan, other affected states have adopted the 85th parallel as a demarcation point for the time zone boundary.
Please help us put this situation to rest once and for all. This situation needs to be resolved with logic rather than passion.
