Editor, Times-Union: Perhaps I should start this letter with the words of journalist John Stossel, of ABC's "20/20," and say "Give me a break!" Of course if you put tasty flowers out there, the deer and other animals think they were put there for them! They do not know that they were put there for "you" to look at and enjoy. The deer are just doing what comes natural to them, foraging for food. The deer don't care what they look like, they only know they taste good. Of course they are going to keep coming to the cemetery to eat, that's because people keep supplying tasty treats for them. There are plants, bushes and trees that are "deer resistant." A complete list of these beautiful flowering plants can be found at the following Web site, gardenblock.com/complete_list.html Of course, the important word to remember is that they are deer "resistant," not guaranteed 100 percent that deer won't eat them, but it's worth a try. After all, you will be spending the money for new plants in the spring, why not give it a try? If you were to go to this Web site you will be amazed how many, over 150 varieties are available, and beautiful too. You will see varieties that you may already plant in your yards or gardens. There is one flower that is guaranteed 100 percent not to be eaten by the deer, the silk or plastic ones. You won't have to worry about watering them, they stay great looking for a long time outside and I'll bet they aren't very tasty either! For years I have read in the paper how people are "sick and tired" of the deer eating all of the plants they have spent lots of money on. The deer were likely on your land before you were and now you are invading their turf. I'm not a person who believes that the deer should run rampant over the countryside, after all they can, and do, carry diseases. Yes, there should be controlled culling of these creatures, that's why the government lets people hunt them to control the population.
My thinking on the words "give me a break" comes from people who are all the time complaining about "little things" in the world. Don't you have more to think about or to do? People complain about the dogs barking, that's probably because some lazy dog owner has his dog tied up outside and it is "bored to barking"! Why do they get a dog anyway, dogs are one of God's very special creatures. What other animal gets kicked and yelled at by its master, then when the master is sitting down the dog will walk up to him and lick his hand? Why would someone throw a kitten out of a car window on the country road? Perhaps if they had been a responsible pet owner they would have gotten their cat spayed or neutered. It doesn't matter what the animal is, it was put on this Earth for a reason. We may not be able to comprehend it, but perhaps we weren't supposed to ask why. It is my belief that the one creature that God created that is useless, as far as I can see, has to be the common house fly, that is something that spreads disease and bothers folks to no end. Perhaps if Noah had been very wise he would have swatted those two flies!

Editor, Times-Union: I know that I did not read a very important article until I heard someone talking about it on the radio! I'm hoping that the people in Warsaw realize what is happening in their school system. Wake up Warsaw and see what is happening to the children of this community! You would think that with Grace College right in this area that there would be enough Christians to fight this! The Bible clearly states that homosexuality is WRONG! Why are we allowing others to influence the children? These are children, they are not college students, these are high school children. Most if not all are 18 or under! When will Christians get off their behinds and do the right thing. Christ had righteous indignation when he cleaned out the temple! Come on Christians this is your time to stand up for Christ! This is wrong and we have to help the children of this generation. I'm not concerned about the letters from people that think I've got some issues, because my God is strong enough to handle any issues that you have against me.
