Editor, Times-Union: On Sept. 13, I attended a Silver Lake Council Meeting. The report in the paper left out a few details I think are important.
I was accused of holding a grudge against Angela Glass because she won the 2003 election. You can call it what you want, but I am concerned with the town's finances. She blames Teresa Howell and I for her inability to do her job, but we gave her a list of things that needed to be done for the first month, when she took office. If she had done these things we would not have had to pay Umbaugh $1,900 to balance December 2003 accounts.
The reason I started requesting her month-end documents was because one of the council members asked me to in September 2004. He said they couldn't get any documents from her. After I saw the terrible condition they were in, I continued to get them. Angela Glass keeps insisting she balanced, when in fact she has not been balanced once in 18 months. The council says they are fine. They don't look fine to me.
The State Board of Accounts reported the terrible condition of her records in the 2004 audit report. Her response to the SBOA audit was that the condition of records was corrected.
On Sept. 13, 2005, I gave the council her July month-end documents showing a town fund of $508,844.23, the bank statement showing $349,024.89 and her reconciliation showing $346,065.89. The difference between the funds and the bank is $162,778.34. These numbers should match when balanced. She has used unidentified income and outstanding deposits on her reconciliation. Our council is basing decisions on incorrect balances. Our 2005 and 2006 budget was based on incorrect balances. What will this do to our taxes and water/sewer bills? Will they go up because of it?
Angela Glass claimed to be qualified for the clerk position. I think the town's people were misled. She needs to balance her books, pay bills on time and bill all customers. On Sept. 13, the council passed a resolution to pay her assistant $2.50 for each trip to the bank or post office, which has been almost daily. This is what Angela Glass is getting paid for. She is costing this town plenty. This kind of incompetence will hurt us all. Stanley Williams may not be interested in what I have to say, but the town's people should be.

BMV Needs To Improve
Editor, Times-Union: It seems in this beautiful land, the opportunities are almost endless with the technology of today. To participate in this society, it is most often a necessity to obtain the privilege of driving. However, visits to the BMV are a dreaded ordeal. The wasted man hours are enormous. For some, it is impossible to wait the required time. No restrooms for the public is an outrage and should be corrected.
