Editor, Times-Union: Fifty years ago Major and Mrs. Herbert Petrie erected a tent on east Center Street to bring live theater to Warsaw. Today they no longer have to perform competing with the outside noises, wind and rain and the occasional flying bugs. People from all over northern Indiana come to enjoy the dramas, comedies and musicals in air conditioned comfort. There are even some who come from Indianapolis, where they have their own playhouse, to enjoy top quality entertainment.
July 22 there will be a one-time show featuring some of the former cast members who have gone on to perform on Broadway and television. Faith Prince from "Spin City" with Michael Fox, and "Guys and Dolls" on Broadway, for which she won a Tony to name a few. Michael McCormick in "1776" and "Kiss Me Kate," on Broadway. Kate Shindler, who has appeared on TV, in movies and in New York. Jim Walton, national touring company and Broadway also writing and directing. How fortunate we are to have entertainment of the quality we have right here in our own backyard.
We hope the community will once again support the theater as it has in the past so as not to lose this gem.

Charity Softball Tourney
Editor, Times-Union: On Aug. 6 at 8 a.m., the second annual Police/Fire/EMS Charity Softball Tournament will be held at the CCAC in Warsaw.
Local police, fire and EMS personnel will be participating. There also will be a home run derby and spectators are asked to bring a "back-to-school" item to donate. All proceeds will go to help needy children in Kosciusko County such as the Shop With a Cop program, the Indiana Burn Camp, Pack a Back Pack campaign and Toys for Tots.
When most residents encounter these emergency personnel, it is usually in a negative situation. Please come and support your local emergency personnel during this positive charity event.

Dancin' Grannies
Editor, Times-Union: We need grannies and grandpas who like to have fun and get their much needed exercise.
We dance to the "old-old oldies." We're rather slow at times, but the dances are very easy to learn. We dance at various places from time to time, such as nursing homes (you should see the grins and appreciation on their faces), service organizations and even the state fair.
We range in age from about 65 to 86 years young. There's not charge and we practice in Winona Lake or Warsaw, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 to 10 a.m.
My husband and I have been with the "Dancin' Grannies and Prancin' Grandpas" for about 10 years. We love it!
If you would like more information, call our "fearless leader," Rosemary at 574-267-6962.
We would really like to have you join us.
