Old Values

Editor, Times-Union:
A person who has no religion is a person who has no control on his life apart from his own selfish desires, therefore is a pagan. This is abnormal.

In the heart and mind of every person whom God has created is an innate sense of right and wrong. In the Bible book of Romans Chapter 1 verses 19-22 is found: "For the truth about God is known to them instinctively; God has put this knowledge in their hearts." ... "Yes, they knew about Him alright, but they wouldn't admit it or worship Him, or even thank Him for all His daily care," "Claiming themselves to be wise without God, they became utter fools instead."

Two families of relatives in two weeks lost sons in death: One was a teenager drunk driver who left the road, struck a tree and died. The other was a young adult diabetic who fell in his home, died, and was found days later. My heart aches for the families experiencing losses. Only God knows the preparation of their souls as they moved into eternity. My leading from God has been to carefully, lovingly speak and live an exemplary Christian life to encourage their devotion to God.

Present day emphasis on education and science is good but lacking is something far more important, Christian and moral training by family, school and church. Previous generations have more effectively and easily received this training by word and example. This made America great! Even prior to there being educational facilities in our land there was an evident sense of the need of God and good moral life. Those who lacked these qualities were marked people and dealt with punishment, i.e. a scarlet letter worn, or public display in stocks. They were recognized as parasites, who live at the expense of others, and doing harm to the common good.

Today, the moral climate in our culture seems to deteriorate month by month. Our educational institutions are handcuffed from teaching effectively ethics without the foundation which the Christian faith brings. Christian teachers in our public schools feel frustrated by the limitation, real or imagined, and are fearful of referring to their personal faith. The result in the student body, if no school or persistent Christian training and parental example at home, is a host of educated pagans. The church cannot overcome in two hours a week or less the worldly culture and peer pressure placed upon children and youth. So the calamities of life and sinful immorality escalates.

An acknowledgement of the need of God must be affirmed in each life, as quoted previously from the Bible book of Romans. When this is done again in the community, in the home, the school, and the church, the greatness that was America will return.

Young parents of little children teach them "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. (Repeat twice more). The Bible tells me so." We did this with our children 50 and 60 years ago, and are very proud of their lives for Christ today.

Do it, and be blessed.

Capitalism

Editor, Times-Union:
Kudos to Mr. Yohey's June 13 article on TV's switch over to mostly commercial ads - he hit it right on the head - but he didn't dig deep enough to find the root cause.

Celebrities - to use the word loosely - who demand higher and higher salaries causing people who advertise their products to raise prices over and over, causing all kinds of problems, people go without and go hungry. Step one, get necessities, and on and on.

In the meantime stars - celebs, athletes, hosts - have homes (castles almost) all over the world. Oh, they give away a million or so, but why oh why take it in the first place? Once they settle in these big homes they find it takes even more money - and up to the prices we all pay or go without.

A few benefit from the largesse - the million dollars, but we all pay for that, too.

First Amendment

Editor, Times-Union:
I will not allow that disgraceful article by John R. MaCarthur, Times-Union 06-21-06, to go unanswered!

This idiot, like the left-wing liberal press, has convicted the U.S. Marines of crimes before they have ever been charged!

Anyone who has never experienced the gut-wrenching, knee-weakening, cold sweat fear of knowing you are facing an armed enemy, intent on killing you - shut up!

You liberal pukes can sit on your fat backsides and fault brave young men and women doing what they were ordered to do - and doing so with pride and honor!

The Times-Union may not print this but if it does I say to all you liberal and left-wing anti-American nuts - Go to ---- .
